Discussion
[edit]"all four"? What about the animated series and Enterprise?
this has been ammended in the wiki but it should be mentioned that by most die hard trekkies the animated series, all webisodes, full cast off shot series after voyager ended (most under the sub name new voyages) and the prequal series enterprise are not considered cannon. while enterprise did go out of its way to explain star trek events and the creation of the federation there are multiple forums disputing the waythe series attempted it and just write off the show as another star trek enjoyment show. as such crediting Majel for the big 4 is probally the most correct way to word it. especially since enterprise did not opt to go under the title of star trek until its final season (the obvious assumption that it was a star trek tv show was made by fans however) 152.91.9.153 (talk) 17:15, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
note I added some stuff about her affair with Rodenberry all documented in this book :
Links
[edit]I note that the link to the User Friendly webcomic tributewas removed, and the anonymous editor commented "Removing badly-drawn conent-free "obituary" from overrated terrible webcomic)". Although the webcomic link may have been a legitimate removal candidate due to relevancy and notability issues, the comment states that the link was removed due to the editor's personal preferences, whilst at the same time publicising and trying to validate his own personal opinions about said webcomic. I personally applaud anyone, no matter how insignificant or talented in thier field, who makes an effort to mark the passing of anyone who they have respected. I thus question our anonymous editor's ability to do anything other than criticise. - Selezen (talk) 09:52, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Image
[edit]OK, the image used for this page has been deleted. Can someone please upload a new one (don't forget the image use tag... Jimbo must have gotten some legal papers filed his way for him to put out an edict like that.) 23skidoo 04:27, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- The current image references GenCon in March of 2007...but GenCon is in August. Was this possibly Star Trek Celebration in Indy in March? Or GenCon in August?Mzmadmike (talk) 13:34, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
actor or actress
[edit]The correctness of the word actress is hotly contested. The article uses both I think we should stick to one Sumergocognito 07:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say hotly, but there is some debate whether to use actor for both sexes. I know the Canadian Press Style Guide, followed by journalists here in Canada, says to use actor for both. To my knowledge there's no Wikirule one way or the other. I agree that regardless which is chosen, it needs to be used consistently throughout the article. 23skidoo 16:07, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's not an issue I'm prepared to fight either way, though if there's still seperate Ocars for male and female performers I think actress is okay. Sumergocognito 19:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Other Trek work
[edit]I seem to vaguely recall that Barrett also read at least one Star Trek audio book from Simon & Schuster in the 80s or 90s. Can anyone confirm? 23skidoo 18:29, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, she read Q-in-Law (written by Peter David) with John deLancie. Selezen (talk) 09:41, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
As an FYI Barrett also appeared in the film Westworld and is credited. She doesn't appear on the Westworld page and it isn't mentioned here.
I don't know if there is enough interest in tracking down her other roles.
Kudos to the research done here!

Name Usage
[edit]In the credits for Andromeda, she is listed as Majel Roddenberry. SHould this be listed as an alias or listed in parentheses as the way she sometimes uses her name? Any information as to when she started going by/goes by Roddenberry instead of Barrett? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Paul R. Potts (talk • contribs) 17:37, 2 April 2007 (UTC).
- She started using it after he died. Yes, I know this is not precise enough - that's why I am only mentioning it here, rather than in the article. FlaviaR (talk) 22:33, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Felinoid/Ailuroid?
[edit]"...the communications officer M'Ress, the felinoid (more properly ailuroid) Caitian who served alongside Uhura." Why the parenthetical? Shouldn't we just reference one adjective meaning "catlike" here? Is there a canon ST source that references M'Ress as felinoid, and somebody just stuck in the ailuroid because we know better here at Wikipedia? :p Or did one editor write felinoid, and another added the parenthetical instead of editing it boldly? What's the story here? I'll hold off editing this for a day or so in case there is a reasonable explanation, and then I'm gonna fix it. Applejuicefool (talk) 17:33, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Number of appearances
[edit]Michael Dorn and Colm Meaney seem to be the actors who appeared in Star Trek more than anyone else. But does anyone know the number of appearances by Majel Barrett? (Including by voice only - suchas for the computer voice. CaptKpsja (talk) 14:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- From the IDb site I make it 233. Star Trek - 28; TNG - 98; DS9 - 25; Voy - 70 and Ent - 2 and 5 movies. This is more than Colm Meaney, but less than Michael Dorn. (Although - many were voice only). CaptKpsja (talk) 16:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- IMDB only lists credited appearances, FYI. And cfrerdited appearances are likely ones for which she was called. For example, in an episode where all that's scripted are lines that she's read before, as the computer's voice, the production team doesn't have to call her in order to complete the episode. So ~100 episodes of Voyager, where the computer just pipes up with "Acknowledged" or something are probably not included at IMDB. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.200.151.222 (talk) 10:54, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Lee vs. Leigh
[edit]In the intro to the article, her middle birth name is spelled "Leigh", but in the biography section, it's spelled "Lee". Can someone who's in-the-know make the appropriate correction. --Rob (talk) 07:09, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm seeing both spellings turn up in sources. In fact, her profile at STARTREK.COM mentions both on the same page. -- Skarl 11:13, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- On the Roddenberry site, http://www.roddenberry.com/?action=site.majel , it is spelled Leigh. I would assume that would be a more definitive source ... some of the newspaper obituaries/biographies show the "Lee" spelling, but I am less certain of their accuracy. With either spelling, I am saddened by her passing. -- WhiteHatLurker (talk) 17:59, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but didn't Majel Barrett do the voices of computers on the science fiction satire Futurama, as a sort of humorous homage to her similar work on Star Trek? B7T (talk) 10:35, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Hudec to Barrett?
[edit]Perhaps a naive question, but when did “Majel Hudec” adopt the name “Majel Barrett”? The current article jumps from “Hudec” in one section to “Barrett” in the next, with no explanation, let alone a cited source. Her IMDB page reports that “Majel Barrett” was credited in her earliest roles in 1958. Might “Barrett” be a SAG name? … and if so, can anyone find a published source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.181.30.121 (talk) 05:01, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
- There are quite a few conversations on the Internet about just how, when and why she changed her name from Hudec to Barrett. I expect Gene Roddenberry's obituary in the New York Times, which states "...Survivors include his wife, the former Majel Leigh Hudec, an actress who appeared in the two "Star Trek" television series under her stage name, Majel Barrett..." may be cited as a credible source. I'll give a think as to appropriate edit and citation, if someone doesn't beat me to it. HiTrish (talk) 01:34, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was wondering about that myself. So she formally adopted her stage name as her legal name at some point, it seems? Kschang77 (talk) 06:17, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
There is no non-free use rationale for the use of this image on this article, so I removed it.-- Brainy J ~✿~ (talk) 01:35, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
