Moved from Talk:Main Page/Layout design on 13 August 2003
(see vote above)
Eloquence suggested editing this to reflect pros and cons of the new design, as expressed in comments. I'll probably do that at some point.
- Switch to Temp5-style layout
- It's got a picture! :) Martin
- Merphant
- Angela
- LDan That page looks much better and is a lot more informative.
- Eloquence
- SimonP, It works now, I'm changing my vote.

- I like it better than current Marshman 23:13, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Like the explanations. More human. --Menchi 00:23, Aug 8, 2003 (UTC)
- I think this page is much better, however, I'd rather see a main page contest before we make a major change -- Ram-Man 02:05, Aug 8, 2003 (UTC)
- Arvindn We computery people might not mind the current concise listing, but Temp5 with its catchy "Featured Articles" section is likely to appeal much better to a wider audience :)
- Schnee I like this one. Maybe a few tweaks are needed, but generally, it looks really good to me.
- Bill Speaking as a contributor, I prefer the current page, but for a user (especially a new user) I think the proposed new format more inviting. The contributor side of me is using the "Recent changes" page as a starting point much more than the main page anyway. However, if we're going to have a contest anyway, leave things the way they are until after that happens.
- Ellmist Temp5 has some possible flaws, but I consider it overall much better than the current main page.
- Nixdorf rock and roll.
- Jwrosenzweig -- it goes farther than the current main page to make Wikipedia attractive to end-users, in my opinion.
- Pascal 13:16, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC) -- I like this new look!
- Keep current Main Page layout
- It's colorful, but looks more like Yahoo then like Google, i.e. I find it to stuffed and confusing. till we *)
- For now at least. See below. --mav
- Too much detail. FearÉIREANN 01:57, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Agree with User:Tillwe. --wshun 17:55, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)

- I vote against any design that uses tables for layout. This one is especially table-intensive. -- Wapcaplet 22:37, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I'm with both wapcaplet and jtdirlDanKeshet 22:44, Aug 7, 2003 (UTC)
- I prefer the current look. Mintguy 23:31, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I really don't like the horizontal rule that runs across the entire page and thus through the right-hand box in Temp5 (Netscape 6.2 under Windows), and I'm still not thrilled with how small the "other language" links are, though either it's a bit better than when I last commented or my eyes are having a very good day. Vicki Rosenzweig 23:36, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- The horizontal rule is only there to separate the temp links from the design. It will not be used in the live version.—Eloquence 00:36, Aug 8, 2003 (UTC)
- Temp5 is too detailed and looks cluttered. -- nknight 01:15, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Too cluttered. The current main page is much easier to navigate. - Efghij 03:19, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I agree it is too detailed and confusing but I like the pictures. Rmhermen 04:08, Aug 8, 2003 (UTC)
- Temp 5 is too cluttered and confusing. The current main page needs a larger "welcome newcomers" heading like what Temp 5 has, but Temp 5 has too much stuffed into the "featured articles" section. --Jiang 05:12, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Temp5 is uglier and wider. 212 09:36, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I like the current design better. Keep it. [[User
