Personal opinion: "Nobody should die at a railroad crossing."

Not a bad thought.

Replacing all them level crossings with bridges would be too expensive, but are there some little defects that have been overlooked, and which could be improved?

Please keep an eye on the level crossing, crossbuck and Crossbuck Safety pages. More uploaded .jpg illustrating level crossings would be appreciated ...

I've been editing the level crossing page, to bring the U.S. parts up-to-date. And I've got lots of crossing pictures to donate. But I haven't yet looked at the crossbuck and crossbuck safety pages. I will soon.

As for the possibility of "little defects", yes, of course there are. Anything made by human hands has that drawback. But change comes slowly to many industries, and the railroads are not immune to this. My primary concern is the accidents that result from ignorance and stupidity. These seem eminently preventable, with education usually being the solution. Like the song says: "I've been there - that's why I'm here. . ."

Finnish and "Somewhere" Crossbuck pics uploaded

[edit]

I have uploaded the correct pics for the two missing crossbuck examples, giving 5 different ones (four since China and US appear to be the same).

Are there any other significant variations?

The question then to ask is why are there these variations, and which is best?
