I run a website called The First Hour, a review site that reviews only the first hour of games.
My favorite type of music, by far, are Oldies.
About 飯侍 (han samurai)
[edit]Back in 2000, when I was a junior in high school and in my fourth year of Japanese, I developed my own Japanese "nickname": HanSamurai. The two kanji that created this were:
- ハン (han) is the ON reading for 飯, the second kanji in gohan, which means rice or meal in Japanese. However, more important at the time of its creation was Gohan from the anime Dragon Ball Z, which I was quite fond of at the time. Nowadays I reference the former definition.
- さむらい (samurai) is the KUN reading for 侍, the kanji for the Japanese samurai. This was my favorite kanji at the time and still is my favorite to write.
HanSamurai (variations: hansamurai, hansamu) soon became my internet handle which I use on most message boards and online games.
Some interesting trivia about the name is that in its shortened version: hansamu, the Japanese would be written: ハンサム which means handsome. The remaining syllables (rai) could be translated into either lie (noun) or defeat (noun). So a different definition could be a handsome lie or a handsome defeat. This was never the original intent but has lead to a very versatile nickname.
If I were to ever develop a new nickname, it would definitely be typable with only the left hand.
