Goesan County (Korean: 괴산군; RR: Goesan-gun) is a county in North Chungcheong Province, South Korea.
Demographics
[edit]As of 2021, Goesan-gun has a population of about 40,000 people.[3] The area has been affected strongly by the graying of the South Korean population, and more than a third of residents are over the age of 65.[3] Schools have closed as urbanization and falling birthrates in Korea have resulted in a declining number of children to attend them.[3] One school, to prevent closure due to low enrollment, offers free housing to families with school-age children.[3]
Tourist spot
[edit]- Sanmagi-yetgil
Sanmagi-yetgil is a 5 km (3.1 mi) road that extends from Sao-rang-maeul village (Oe-sa-ri, Chilseong-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungbuk) to Sanmagi village in the mountains. It is a stroll path restored to resemble the traditional mountain road with a picturesque landscape.[4]
Economy
[edit]Gosan Agricultural Industrial Complex, Fermented Food Industrial Complex, Sari Agricultural Industrial Complex, Gamul Furniture General Industrial Complex, Daeje Industrial Complex, and Gosan Advanced General Industrial Complex are located in the city.
The fishery industry started in 2018, and in 2019, it attracted the River Village Regeneration Project, a 300 project of the National Fishing Village New Deal, hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries[5], and is striving to develop the inland fishing industry by creating the nation's first inland smart fish farm pilot complex.[6]
local specialties
[edit]Specialities include green chillies, pickled cabbage, and sweet corn. It is also famous for its natural monuments such as the Misun tree. As a side note, around October 2010, the price of Chinese cabbage increased a lot, but the local pickled cabbage was quite cheap, so it became very popular and helped promote the region. The Geographical Indication System/Korea has registered Goesan chilli, chilli powder, and char corn.
