San Antonio Spurs
[edit]It's ok, I'm over it now. I was just bitter at the fact that we had zero offense last night. I really do like the Pistons a lot. They're my second favorite team in the NBA after the Spurs of course. I'm a huge fan of team play vs. individual glory, and Detroit and San Antonio play exactly like that, so I really can't hate you guys (the Palace PA guy get a bit on my nerves sometimes, but I'm able to tolerate it). Just do me a favor and smack Shaq around in the playoffs OK? ;-)
Good luck the rest of the way, oh and Chauncey Billups for MVP!!! Dknights411 15:52, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Ruth Article
[edit]Thank you for your comments and fine editing of the article Tmassey. Admittedly, for the average reader, the article is too long and comprehensive. I wrote the article more for those people who want more information on Ruth, not just a rough outlined sketch. Since length concerns are important to some, I do think there should be a separate and much shorter article on Ruth. There are a few entries in Wikipedia where there is one longer and detailed article, and another article on the same subject that is more general (e.g., Isaac Newton).
I do not agree with summary style for this article because I believe that none of the sections warrants enough information for their own page. Of course one could write more on Ruth’s individual seasons in separate articles, but I have to think if people want to read more on Ruth than what is already in this article (which is a long article) they probably should look for a complete biography on Ruth. If someone wants do this article summary style, that is fine, but it is something I likely will not do.
I do not believe I overloaded the article but too many statistics, and one must remember that no sport is more closely identified by statistics, and no sport is more obsessed with statistics than baseball, (although the NFL is gaining ground). Tmassey, normally I would agree about overloading articles of any nature with numbers and stats, but specifically pointing to this article, Ruth perhaps possesses the most impressive statistics of any player in the history of baseball. It was these Herculean numbers that largely transformed him from merely a baseball player into a national figure. Because of this, his numbers almost beg to be mentioned, even if at times it seems their mention appears excessive. In baseball, a player’s value is what his numbers say he is.
Tmassey you are correct on parts of the article having a more biographical tone than pure encyclopedic one. Sometimes the line between biographical and encyclopedic is subtle, and I may not be qualified enough to always know the precise division. I do admit to “spicing” up the article with a fair amount of quotes, photos, and digressions that take the article away being completely encyclopedic. As mentioned earlier, I believe there should be another much shorter, and perhaps more purely encyclopedic Ruth article that would address these concerns.
Thank you for comments Tmassey, and any other suggestions you have are welcome. --LibraryLion 00:46, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Babe Ruth
[edit]I'm posting this message on you Talk Page either because you've contributed to the article Babe Ruth, or because you've edited other baseball or sports related articles. I've recently completed a revision of this article at Babe Ruth/rewrite. If you have the time, I'd appreciated it if you'd compare the articles and leave any feedback you might have on the rewrite discussion page. I'd like to reach a consensus before makeing major changes to the main article. Thanks for your help. --djrobgordon 20:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Detroit Pistons
[edit]Hi, the information you posted regarding the Pistons media, is incorrect. I think it is a good idea to have the game reporters mentioned, but the information you posted is from the 2002-2003 NBA season, and we are now in 2006-07.
At that time the Pistons were on WKBD and FSN Detroit for tv and WDFN for radio. Now they are on WMYD and FSN Detroit for tv and WDFN for radio.
According to the Pistons website George Blaha: WKBD Play-by-Play, Radio Play-by-Play Mark Champion: Anternate Radio Play-by-Play Greg Kelser: FSN Detroit Analyst Bill Laimbeer: WKBD Analyst Rick Mahorn: Radio Analyst Fred McLeod: FSN Detroit Play-by-Play
here are the changes since then: Following 2003-2004 the Pistons got rid of their affiliation to WKBD and WDWB (now WMYD) picked up the over the air rights. George Blaha: all radio play-by-play Mark Champion: was dropped Greg Kelser: all tv analyst Bill Laimbeer: was dropped Rick Mahorn: all radio analyst Fred McLeod: all tv play-by-play
following 2005-06 George Blaha: all tv play-by-play Mark Champion: was picked back up as all radio play-by-play Greg Kelser: all tv analyst Rick Mahorn: all radio analyst Fred McLeod: became new Cavs tv play-by-play
as it stands now Blaha and Kelser do television, Champion and Mahorn do radio Tigersfan1992 04:12, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
