Moved Comments
[edit]The former article associated with the page of this name concerned almost entirely the subject of library catalogs, and both the article and talk were moved accordingly. The following items referred to Catalog and thus to content now moved, but still concern this page's (dab) article: to subects to be linked to from here:
- What about sales catalogs (such as Sears)? This is what I would think of first when I hear the word "catalog" but I don't see any reference to such catalogs. The Sears catalog was very important in American economic history, and needs to be included somewhere. Should this type of catalog be in this article, or is it somewhere else? adam
- The content right now is really just library catalog, you want a mail-order catalog article, and sooner or later this article will need to become a disambiguator connecting to various types of catalogs; stamp catalog is not linked from here it looks like. Stan 03:01, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Catalog v. catalogue
[edit]A recent anonymous editor changed all instances of catalog on this page to catalogue. There is some logic to doing this as catalogue is the preferred spelling in Wiktionary (with catalog listed as an alternate US spelling).
However, this particular page is clearly titled catalog and has been redirected from catalogue. In addition, catalog is the consistently used spelling throughout Wikipedia, so many of these links are now pointing to redirects. Some sort of consensus needs to be reached about how to handle this. - Since the anonymous edits resulted in redlinks and there appears to be no imminent resolution to the spelling issue, I'm going to go with predominant Wikipedia usage and revert those edits to the last version that used catalog throughout. If someone wants to look at this more holistically, I'm all for it. Planetneutral 03:03, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have made the call to change the article to catalogue. If you look at the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling) it shows that every country (even the US) accepts the spelling "catalogue", while only the United States uses "catalog". Shaizakopf 21:31, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Shaizakopf- I'm reverting your move. It needs to be discussed. Please let it be discussed before moving again. My suggestion, however, is to leave it as it is. We have more important things to do. --Justice for All 04:00, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Archaeological catalog?
[edit]Does wiki have an article on this, or do one of the articles on here have this information within it? Perhaps if it is the latter, it could be mentioned here. 75.161.129.54 (talk) 01:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
