IPL/IDPL proposed deletion

[edit]

I flagged Initial Developer's Public License and InterBase Public License for proposed deletion because it falls into several categories of what what Wikipedia is not. If you feel the need to store these files on a wiki server instead of just referencing them as external links, might I suggest Wikimedia Commons? Alternately, you could delete the license text and write an article about the meaning of the licenses, in the vein of Mozilla Public License. That said, I don't think either license is notable enough to justify an article to itself, so I would suggest that a transwiki to Commons is the best solution if you don't want to use an external link for some reason. Note that Firebird (database server) and InterBase are notable software so you also have the option of merging discussion of their licenses into those articles.

~What is left now is empty pages ? how is that useful ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mariuz (talkcontribs) .

No, nothing is left now; it's as if they were never created. The "articles" have been deleted because they don't belong in an encyclopedia. Ask yourself: If you pulled a printed encyclopedia off the shelf and encountered the legal text of the IPL, would that make sense, or would it seem out of place? Wikipedia is no different; we are writing an encyclopedia here, not an indiscriminate collection of information. The correct place for such materials is WikiSource (not Commons as I incorrectly suggested earlier). If what I write doesn't make sense to you then please read the article on What Wikipedia is Not.
Again, thanks for your contributions, and happy editing! --Craig Stuntz 14:42, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
