Old discussions

[edit]

This page seems redundant with Genetic fingerprinting -- the articles should probably be merged, or, if there's a distinction between the articles, it should be made explicit.

Hopefully less redundant now; one's to do with the science, and the other with legal issues. - Hephaestos 03:32, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Except that genetic fingerprinting is only one of many different kinds of DNA testing. I'll make a change so that the article is no longer wrong, but more will need to be added here. - Binky

I had read somewhere that the US Military might also begin collecting the DNA strands of service members. As someone who has a relative that disappeared during the Korean War, it's probably not a bad idea. It would help reduce the chances of having future unknown soliders, that those who made the ultimate sacrifice can be identified and returned to their families.

The discussions above appear to be from when "DNA testing" was its own article. -- Kjkolb (talk) 03:06, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New disambiguation page

[edit]

I created this disambiguation page because i believed that some of the redirects to the only two articles that are currently disambiguated, "DNA profiling" and "genetic testing", were applicable to both. The DNA profiling article particularly had many redirects that were ambiguous, at best. A few of the DNA profiling redirects could have arguably been made into redirects to the genetic testing article, in my opinion. However, I do not think that anyone was trying to steer people one way or the other. I think that the articles on the topic changed over time, perhaps some of them were merged and some were abandoned and redirected. Anyway, I think that the terms that could be ambiguous now redirect here. In fact, I may have gone overboard with what may be considered ambiguous. If you think so, you are welcome to undo any of my redirects. However, please try to imagine the term as it might be used in the other field. In addition, while it may look like I took many redirects from the "genetic testing" article, if you look at the changes I made, you will see that all but the last two of the redirects that I changed were for the DNA profiling article. Finally, while I left "DNA profile" as a redirect to "DNA profiling", I have heard the term used frequently in the topic of genetic testing, especially in articles about people who test their own DNA. If you want to contact me for some reason, please post a message on my user talk page. Thank you, Kjkolb (talk) 03:06, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
