Musings on M
[edit]Not that I think my talk page gets read much, but I wonder what Will Rogers would think of the M cartoon controversy? "I never met a man I didn't like."
Will learned to laugh at himself early. One might even say he learned humility, not in the sense of underestimating or undervaluing himself, but in the sense that he understood that he wasn't "all that", as the vernacular goes. A person - perhaps entity would be a better word - may be all-powerful, such as Allah, or all-important, such as M* the Messenger, but the day you can't take the mick out of someone - those two, God, George W. Bush, whoever - is the day that freedom dies.
Why is it that anybody may badmouth Stephen Harper, newly-elected Prime Minister of my country, and suffer nothing, while no-one may badmouth the Messenger and/or Islam?
Why is it that anybody may dismiss derisively, or badmouth, military special operations forces, whose "religion" includes humility, quiet professionalism, a "ready and can-do" attitude, accepting no limits in terms of personal growth, and more besides, while no-one may badmouth the Messenger and/or Islam?

- I don't trust myself to spell His name correctly because I've seen too many (apparently acceptable) variant spellings and I don't use His name often enough. Apologies.
