I think his discography is now big enough for it to be needed on this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.145.36.86 (talk) 10:52, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Change organization
[edit]Normally, pages on musicians are broken into sections such as "early life" and "career" or something like that that is appropriate. I suggest that the "history" section of this article be broken into multiple sections. Anyone else have any thoughts? Lexandalf (talk) 04:27, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

What instrument?
[edit]What sort of a uke does he play?
-- TimNelson (talk) 11:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- I know this is late, but better late than never. It is either tenor or concert, my guess is concert though.12.157.120.212 (talk) 04:35, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
He plays a tenor98.221.161.241 (talk) 17:40, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
It's a custom made Kamaka Tenor. Aggie80 (talk) 15:01, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
Okinawan American?
[edit]His family name "Shimabukuro" is Okinawan family name. It means, his father family is Okinawan Japanese heritage. But, his mother family is a descendent of japanese from north japan, Fukushima pref, not Okinawa. So, it is not correct to call him "Okinawan american". He should be called "Japanese American". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.3.59.74 (talk) 07:50, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Relevant to the comment above, I just made an edit to include reference to both his Japanese and Okinawan heritage. There are many examples of Jake being actively connected to his Okinawan heritage and the Okinawan-American community in Hawaii--which is connected to but distinct from the Japanese-American community in Hawaii--so it is relevant to include it. A little web searching will make this clear, but here are a few specific examples:
- * Was named Okinawa-Uchina Ambassador in 2006
- * Did music for a play about a fourth generation Okinawan American in 2016
- * Was given Legacy Award by the Hawaii United Okinawan Association in 2018

Documented Virtuoso?
[edit]I found what at least I believe to be sufficient support of that claim in one of the references already listed. This is also supported by the endless string of accolades on his You Tube material. At this point, I feel someone should try to post any references denying such capability if they still feel this is 'original research'. I didn't write the original line, I just feel the OR tag was grossly off target. JascalX (talk) 03:36, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
