Wikipedia:WikiProject Entertainment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First, an important note for everyone to remember:

A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about entertainment. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!

Introduction

[edit]

There are tons of entertainment articles of various plays and shows on Wikipedia, including those in the movies, television, animation, and other forms of entertainment. Proposal to be defined by its members, if any.

Goals

[edit]

This WikiProject aims primarily to normalize the standards for all the media articles in Wikipedia.

The entire subject and Wikipedia's coverage of it is intended to be summarized in the Outline of entertainment. It in turn is part of Wikipedia's outline system which is one of Wikipedia's main contents systems.

Please look it over and fill-in missing topics. If Wikipedia has an article or article section about those topics, please add links to them.

While analyzing the outline, please answer the following questions (and fix the outline as needed):

  1. What's missing?
  2. Is the structure of the outline (sections and indents) representative of the subject?
  3. Does the outline help understand the relationships between the topics presented in the best way possible?

The overall purpose of the outline is to help readers comprehend the subject by showing what belongs to it, and within the subject what belongs to what.

The outline is a taxonomy of the subject, and also serves as a table of contents and navigation aid to browse Wikipedia's articles (and article sections) about the subject.

It is also a useful tool for the WikiProject to analyze, plan, develop, and revise entertainment-related material. It is a hub from which to organize related topics.

It was built as a "reverse outline", a structural model of an existing work, which in addition to being a summary of the work, can reveal the gaps and other weaknesses for revision purposes.

Please help improve it.

It's our bird's eye view.

Thank you.

Structure

[edit]

To start off, for movies and tv articles, I like to have a list of characters on hand for that particular movie or tv show. A short premise/plot and list of characters would be a part of a tv/movie article, and would probably be something similar to IMDb.

If I were to modify the movie article Star Trek: First Contact, it might look like this:

Star Trek: First Contact is the eighth Star Trek movie.

Warning: Wikipedia contains spoilers

Plot

[edit]

In it, the crew of the brand-new USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) travel back in time to prevent the evil, cybernetic Borg drones from assimilating Earth. When they arrive in the mid-twenty first century, however, they find that they need to make sure Earth makes its first contact with aliens, in order to preserve their future.

List of Major Characters

More Information on the Movie

[edit]

(Probably used to help describe the movie more)

First Contact actually occurs on April 5th, 2063, when Zefram Cochrane makes the first ever warp flight, attracting a passing Vulcan vessel.

Some other categories:

  • Production Notes,
  • The effect of the show on society (I.e. Seinfeld on America and World)

Hierarchy Definition

[edit]

Entertainment can be classified into movies, tv programs, animations, and etc. For Movies and TV, they can be subclassified into their particular genre. List of movies and list of tv programs are some examples.

See this example on dividing a topic into a hierarchy.

Upside-down lists of works

[edit]

If you spot a list of works, or a list of awards, that is in reverse-chronological order, please either correct it to chronological order as per WP:LOW, or tag it with the template {{MOSLOW}}. This template looks like this:

I just created an article on Australia's Thunder from Down Under. They are a pretty well known touring male review who are also featured in Los Vegas. I don't know what other Wiki project they might fall under. I'm pretty sucky at the technical aspects of writing articles so I could defiantly use help!
